Classes are held every Sunday afternoon, 2 – 4 PM, at 6100 Patterson Avenue, Richmond, VA 23226 from September to June. Please see academic calendar for the schedule of language classes, cultural classes, and community events.

The Richmond Chinese School offers the language classes at beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels. There are also classes for non-native speakers of all ages. We use Hanyu Pinyin and teach both traditional and simplified Chinese characters.

In addition to language classes, the Richmond Chinese School also offers cultural classes such as Chinese chess, Chinese calligraphy and painting, Chinese yo-yo, and Chinese Folk dances.

ClassClass Descriptions
Preschool Age 3-5 (學前班)Introduction to Chinese language through fun activities. Students will enjoy learning to speak and listen in Chinese through games, songs, and arts & crafts.
Elementary I
Age 5-7
(初級班 I)		Introduction to Chinese language and pronunciation through many learning activities. Students will learn numbers, Chinese words, and some Chinese traditions through cultural activities.
Elementary II
Age 6-10
(初級班 II)		In this class students will learn to recognize Chinese characters through writing and reading. Students will learn new characters in every lesson. Class includes games and activities.
Intermediate
Age 10-13
(中級班)		Emphasize Chinese characters writing, sentence building, reading, and speaking. Students speak Mandarin in course discussions to build confidence in using Mandarin at home and friends. This class also let students become aware of the advantage of maintaining Chinese as a second language through videos and stories.
Adult Conversation
(成人班)		A course designed for adult beginners. Focus on learning essential vocabulary, practicing pronunciation, and understanding simple grammatical structures. Introduction to Chinese culture through cultural classes.
