Classes are held every Sunday afternoon, 2 – 4 PM, at 6100 Patterson Avenue, Richmond, VA 23226 from September to June. Please see academic calendar for the schedule of language classes, cultural classes, and community events.

The Richmond Chinese School offers the language classes at beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels. There are also classes for non-native speakers of all ages. We use Hanyu Pinyin and teach both traditional and simplified Chinese characters.

In addition to language classes, the Richmond Chinese School also offers cultural classes such as Chinese chess, Chinese calligraphy and painting, Chinese yo-yo, and Chinese Folk dances.

Introduction to Chinese language and pronunciation through arts and crafts, fun games, and singing.
Elementary One

Emphasize Chinese character reading and writinig. Students learn and practice several simple Chinese characters and reading text with the aid of bopomofo (Bopomofo is the predominant phonetic system in teaching reading and writing in elementary school in Taiwan). This class is taught exclusively online.
Elementary Two

Emphasize Chinese characters writing. Students learn and practice at least 12 characters per week, reading text with the aid of Pinyin, and ultimately without the help of Pinyin as the goal upon course completion.
Adult Conversation I

A course designed for adult beginners. Focus on learning essential vocabulary, practicing pronunciation, and understanding simple grammatical structures. Introduction to Chinese culture through cultural classes.
Adult Conversation II
Prepare students for basic daily conversations and enhance the ability to effectively use the Chinese language and improve proficiency.
Adult Advanced Class
Use the Chinese language to confidently communicate on a range of topics related to real-life situations.
