Present

It’s Tea Time

Cultural Class | October 15, 2023

Tea is a culture.

Tea is a way of life.

Today, we would like to share with you our love of TEA.

The Richmond Chinese School & The TEA Standard present It’s Tea Time for its October Cultural Class at 4PM. The class will feature Tea Sommelier Ren Warren-Mebane and New York City Mandarin speaking and enrichment expert Amy Huimin. This class will allow students to taste, touch and experience China’s number one beverage – utilizing their taste and sensory skills. The class will end with song and of course – TEA.

Liè zhìwén zhōngwén xuéxiào hé TEA Standard yú xiàwǔ 4 diǎn tuīchū shí yuè wénhuà kè “xiàwǔ chá shíjiān”. Gāi kèchéng jiāngyóu chá shì jiǔ shī Ren Warren-Mebane hé niǔyuē shì pǔtōnghuà hé fēngfù zhuānjiā Amy Huimin dānrèn zhǔjiǎng. Běn kèchéng jiāng ràng xuéshēng lìyòng tāmen de wèijué hé gǎnguān jìnéng lái pǐncháng, chùmō hé tǐyàn zhōngguó dì yī yǐnliào. Kèchéng jiāng yǐ gēqǔ hé chá jiéshù.

Would you like/want tea? In Chinese, people don’t say “想要茶(xiǎng yào chá) want tea”.  Instead, they say “想喝茶(xiǎng hēchá) want to drink tea.”

So this sentence should be translated into: 你想喝茶吗?(Nǐ xiǎng hēchá ma?)

Ren Warren-Mebane received the prestigious title of Tea Sommelier from the International Tea Masters Association (ITMA). As a certified Tea Sommelier she has gained a significant level of tea knowledge and expertise in the industry. This lover of tea has studied with certified tea masters Philip Parada and Kim Jack Riley.  And, broadening her tea knowledge through classes such as New Zealand Teas, Tea Mediation, Tea & Wellness, Craft Tea Taste Test, Holidays with Harney, Jane Austen Teas, among others. Ren shares her time between New York City and Virginia with her husband, Ryan and daughter, Catherine who loves the Chinese language.
